Twitter is a dangerous thing for people in the public eye, you have to be careful what you say and who you say it to. No one has made that more painfully clear than rapper Azealia Banks, who has now had her Twitter account taken away from her (finally).

Over the course of the last 12 months Banks has done a fantastic job of offending, insulting and alienating everyone from fellow rappers to celebrity bloggers and her own fanbase.

From being known as one of the most promising new rappers out there, she's now best known for being offensive and bitter, consistently asserting her own brilliance and complaining of how others are trying to stand in her way.

Gigwise takes a look back at some of the worst Tweets from Banks, the Tweets that have finally resulted in her being banned from using her own Twitter account...

  • A$AP Rocky - April 2013: The most recent star to feel the force of Azealia's Twitter wrath was A$AP Rocky, with Banks implying he was gay after he commented on women's choice of lipstick. "Lol @ A$ap Rocky's lipstick advice," she wrote. "Some people should just come out of the closet."

  • Stone Roses - March 2013: The Stone Roses came under fire after Banks felt that they had tried to sabotage her set at the Future Music Festival in Australia. Azealia couldn't contain her outrage on Twitter. “F**k those old saggy white n**gas stone roses. I wish them nothing but excrement and death,” read one post.

  • Rita Ora - March 2013: Ora fell foul of Banks when model Cara Delavigne was spending a lot of time with the UK popstar instead of the rapper, leading to this series of Tweets. "LOL Rita Ora is so thirsty", "She climbed over the wall of my dancers dressing room to snap photos", "She's been TRYING IT on this tour man... ", "She's mad she's Rihanna's understudy", "Shut up Rita Oral"

  • Baauer - February 2013: Baauer's track 'Harlem Shake' became an internet sensation earlier this year, and Banks decided to post her own version of the track. Baauer had it taken down and Banks was not happy. "You're a pussy. You don't belong in hip-hop," she wrote.

  • Perez Hilton - January 2013: Perhaps the most shocking of Banks' Twitter outbursts, her attack on Perez Hilton infuriated gay rights organisations. The argument raged for some time, one of the worst Tweets being, "omg u should just kill yourself... Like for real... lol what a messy f*ggot you are."

  • Angel Haze - January 2013: The two lady rappers found themselves in a full blown feud after Banks appeared to have a dig at Haze over a track about New York. This descended into a proper slagging match with diss tracks following. "Whatever, angel haze was just waiting for an opportunity to express her Azealia Banks jealousy," Banks tweeted. Modest. Angel Haze promptly linked her to one of her own Tweets telling Haze how great she is.

  • Her own fans - July 2012: Banks appeared to turn on her own fans last summer, slamming hipsters. "I really hate hipsters. That's one type of person I can't stand," she Tweeted. "Hipsters are those socially inept cornballs who at any given moment have to bring you down about dumb shit like musical knowledge n clothes."

  • The rap game and Twitter - June 2012: Almost a year ago Banks decided she didn't want to be a rapper and was done with Twitter."As soon as i started paying attention to bullshit urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i'm a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the 'rap game'... or whatever the f*ck that means..." She tweeted. "No more twitter for me... it makes me entirely too accessible." If only she had stuck to that.

  • Marina & The Diamonds - May 2013: Banks didn't take kindly to Marina Diamondis' comments that she put all her personality into her Twitter account, biting back and giving it all she had, writing: "Lol I see this one thirsty singer from the UK sub-tweet about me all the time." She added "She better shut up before I steal her look & sound... B*tches think they’re clever and rude, but trust me, I’m ruder."

  • Lily Allen - July 2013: Things got really personal between Allen and Banks on Twitter, after the UK star claimed the '212' rapper was a one hit wonder. She didn't take kindly, as you might imagine. "Weak... she can't talk though... NOT with that ugly husband she has," Banks wrote. "LOL ill be a one hit wonder but you have ugly children..... Shhhhhhh. #SHUTUP"

  • Lady Gaga - September 2013: After tackling stars big and small, Banks recently took aim at one of the biggest on the planet, hitting out at Lady Gaga for 'copying' her idea for a mermaid-themed gig. "@LadyGaga Yaaaaaas bitch!!! You better promote the head negress during YOUR performance !!! #promo #mermaid #huge," said Banks as Gaga took to the stage in London for her iTunes show, before later asking followers: "On a scale of 1-10, how out of ideas is Lady Gaga?"
