Mick Jagger: 'People don't want to hear new Rolling Stones music'

Rock legend discusses glum fans at live shows

Mick Jagger says that the Rolling Stones will not be making another album - as fans don't want to hear it.

The band's last release was 2012's GRR!, although it was only a greatest hits record, and their last studio album was in 2005 with A Bigger Bang.

However, they have no plans for a follow-up, because Jagger says that fans are only interested in hearing the classics.

Speaking to USA Today, he said, "It would be nice to have a new album, but people don't like the new album when you play it on stage. They glumly look at you. 'Okay, it will be over in a minute.' It's not a good excuse, but it's the truth and has to be said."

However, guitarist Keith Richards has other plans, and disagrees with Jagger about the need for another Stones album.

He added, "The time to record a band is once they've been on the road a while so they're hot. We'll think about that while we're doing this (tour). The world needs more Stones records. So do I."

Mick Jagger says that fans do not want to hear newer material at concerts

The Rolling Stones' 50 & Counting tour kicks off next month in California, but UK fans will get the chance to see them in July.

The band have confirmed two Hyde Park shows, as well as a headline slot at the legendary Glastonbury festival.

Then and now: 50 years of the Rolling Stones
