Gigwise readers have named Frightened Rabbit's Pedestrian Verse album the best release of 2013 so far, beating some seriously stiff competition to top the poll.

The band's fourth album beat the likes of Reading and Leeds headliners Biffy Clyro, Latitude headliners Foals, returning icon David Bowie and rising stars Everything Everything to win the poll among a fiercely contested tussle for top. Read our review of Pedestrian Verse here.

Speaking of topping the poll, frontman Scott Hutchison told us: "We would be pleased just to sit alongside any of the albums on this list, but to be at the top is just incredible. Thanks Gigwise readers!"

Pedestrian Verse was the Scot rockers fourth studio album, and their first on major label Atlantic. It hit No.9 when it was released in February of this year.

The top five albums, as voted for by Gigwise readers is as follows (as of 12pm, Monday 25 March - when the poll was officially closed).

No.1: Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse
No.2: Biffy Clyro - Opposites
No.3: Foals - Holy Fire
No.4: David Bowie - The Next Day
No.5: Everything Everything - Arc

There's no two ways about it, Pedestrian Verse is a bloody brilliant album

At the tail end of the poll, it was bad news for US hair-legends Bon Jovi, as their 2013 release What About Now was voted the worst album release of 2013. Also proving unpopular with Gigwise readers was Every Weekend by Hadouken, Pale Green Ghosts by John Grant, Welcome Oblivion by How To Destroy Angels and Long Live A$AP by A$AP Rocky.

Frightened Rabbit's 'Backyard Skulls EP' is released on Monday, 1 April 2013.
