Liam Payne's family home was invaded by One Direction fans after they misinterpreted the clues on a radio competition.

Free Radio in the West Midlands was running a competition for fans to win two tickets to the sold out One Direction concert in Birmingham, and shared six clues to help listeners find the hidden tickets.

Two of the clues included, "they are close to somewhere beautiful," and "could have been an ancient burial site." For some reason, this led One Direction fans to assume that the tickets were hidden in Liam Payne's garden.

The fans headed over to the One Direction member's family home, and began to search in the bushes, plant pots and even in the wheelie bins. The tickets were later found taped to the back of a road sign in Wolverhampton.

Speaking to The Sun, Liam's dad Geoff said, "I’m much better now that the competition is over. I’ve had people loitering around the house for days on end now. I’m glad someone won it. There have been people hiding round corners looking for them."

A source added, "The fans were in Liam’s family’s front garden for quite a while. His dad rang the show to say he was relieved the competition was over as fans were mooching around the lawn."

They continued, "Geoff saw the funny side of it, thankfully."

The DJs, Nigel Freshman and Cat James, apologised to the Payne family "wholeheartedly" for the confusion caused.
