Yannis doesn't want to see 'some dude from the 90s'

Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has said that he's bored of festivals always having the same headliners - such as the Stone Roses.

Foals are set to headline Latitude festival this year, alongside Bloc Party and Kraftwerk, and think that 'old bands' should not be able to headline festivals, as it means newer bands don't get a chance.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Philippakis said, "There's a big problem with old bands who always occupy the top slots at festivals. More heritage names reform every year, which only makes it worse.

"It really limits bands of our generation. We don't get a fair chance to headline, because the slots are reserved for the same old names."

He went on to blame festival-goers, continuing, "You get people in their late 30s going to festivals, in their dungarees with a couple of kids, wanting to relive their adolescence, pretending they're baggy again by watching The Stone Roses.

"They aren't in touch with what's going on now. I'm bored of seeing some dude from the 90s headline, it means nothing to me."

The Stone Roses - don't expect Foals to see them in concert

He finished by talking about Foals' plans for their live show, insisting that it won't be boring. "We'll have some lasers - but it's a rock show," Philippakis said. "We're not going to hand out free sweets and have a brass band play with us just because we're headlining.

"It's hardly 'shock horror' that I can't see Foals lasting until I'm 40."
