Alice Cooper: 'Amy Winehouse was destined to die young'

Alice Cooper believes Amy Winehouse and Jim Morrison were part of a group of 'true artists' that probably didn't want to grow old and were destined to die young.

The legendary rocker admits he was on a similar path during his most rock 'n' roll years, but realised he needed to slow down when he 'had to wake up one morning and throw up blood.'

Cooper told Rolling Stone: "Nobody could talk Jim Morrison out of dying. I was a drunk, but I was a lightweight compared to him, and nobody could talk him out of where he was going.

"Jim was gonna go there and that was it. Same with Amy. I don't think anybody could've talked Amy out of where she was going.

"The true artists are always out on a limb. They're always the ones that are just maybe gonna die.

"I think the early guys, the Jim Morrisons, the Janis Joplins, just did not want to see 30 - 27 was the expiration date... and I guess they said, 'That's too close to 30, I'm just gonna burn out'."

The 'Schools Out' singer also revealed that he feels Justin Bieber could become a 'seasoned artist', but will have to try and avoid the excesses that come with being a young popstar.

He added: "If he rides this thing out and still makes records, he's gonna be a seasoned artist in about ten years, 'cause he makes good records now, but he's got to survive the next 10 years. The excess is gonna come at him so quick."

Cooper is planning to record an album inspired by onetime drinking club the Hollywood Vampires which included legendary artists such as John Lennon, Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson.
