Flume interview: 'Dance music died? No. It was killed'

Cereal boxes, the power of David Guetta and more at Flume's first ever UK gig

  • Flume: The most exciting name in electrionic music in 2013 is Flume, who releases his stunning debut album early in the year - and is sure to be heard for the 12 months that follow. Glitchy, lo-fi and packed with r&b sass, tracks such as 'Sleepless', 'Insane', 'Left Alone' and 'On Top' should already be on your playlists. Awesome stuff.

Producer Flume is responsible for the first essential electronic album of 2013, with the release of his self-titled debut. The 21-year-old's astounding debut is a collection of laid back electronica that held One Direction from No.1 in his Australian homeland when it was released in 2012.

Featuring the single 'Sleepless' and current release 'Left Alone' (featuring fellow rising Aussie star Chet Faker), Flume's self-titled debut album is out in the UK now, and Harley Streten recently made his UK debut at London's XOYO club.

Ahead of the show, we caught up with this hugely talented newcomer to find out how a cereal packet got him started making music, discuss why dance music has been killed and 'raped' by pop producers and his plans to build a bigger, better band and return to the UK later this year to hit the festival scene.

Check out our interview with Flume below - and see footage of his debut London gig.
