British artists such as Adele, One Direction and Ed Sheeran have seen huge success in the US over the past year in a shift in power towards UK acts.

So much so that four of the five best selling albums of 2012 were by Brits, led by Adele's 21 which sold 4.4 million copies.

Other record breakers, One Direction have seen worldwide success, so it is no surprise that their albums were amongst the biggests selling in the US last year as they became the first British act to achieve two No.1 records at their first two attempts.

American chart success is not something that has come easily to our UK artists in the past, so just what is so different about the current crop?

Here's our list of stars doing amazingly well across the pond. Something that has eluded so many in the past.
