Photos: Beyonce surveys her kingdom at Barack Obama's inauguration

Singer steals show from some president or other

21 January 2013: This week Beyonce put on the performance of a lifetime in Washington, singing America's National Anthem, 'The Star Spangled Banner', as if her life depended on it at a huge US event. Something to do with politics we believe.

The star single-handedly turned Barack Obama's second inauguration as US president into The Beyonce Show with her solo spot at the event, tearing out her ear-piece mid performance to belt out the tune and adding a few additional notes of her own to the anthem.

The star attended the event with husband Jay-Z and mingled with Barack and wife Michelle, while the likes of Katy Perry and John Mayer were forced to look on from the crowd. Life is tough when your name is not Beyonce.

Check out photos of Beyonce's show stealing performance here.
