Council revokes licence following arrests

London venue 93 Feet East is set to close for good as a result of a police raid before Christmas.

In December a 'Benny Hill-esque' police raid saw 175 police officers storm the venue, and the club's licence was revoked after ten people were arrested, reports The Stool Pigeon.

The raid, which was part of Operation Condor, saw 93 Feet East temporarily close its doors, but now its licence has been revoked by the council it will be closing for good.

Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamelts, Ohid Ahmed, told The Evening Standard: "The decision on 93 Feet East's licence demonstrates that we are prepared to take swift and decisive action if bars are found to be allowing drug dealing and drug misuse.

"Through continued partnership working between the council and police, including the dealer a day initiative, we will continue to go the extra mile to tackle drug dealing in our community."

Operation Condor saw the Metropolitan Police rading 2,487 venues in London over a single weekend in an attempt to crack down on crimes related to licensing laws.

93 Feet East was the biggest to be be raided.

The raids resulted in a total of 173 arrests and 44 warrants executed. The raid at 93 Feet East resulted in 10 arrests, two of which were people suspected of intent to supply.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs, one on suspicion of being an illegal imigrant, one for being drunk and disorderly and one for being the owner/occupier of a premises being concerned with concerned in the supply of drugs.

93 Feet East isn't the only prominent venue to be suffering from the crackdown. Brixton's infamous Hootananny had its licence altered before Christmas, meaning customers may no longer be admitted after 11pm.

Sources at the venue said the reasons for the change included suspicion of drug use in the venue and noise complaints.
