New music: Swiss Lips cover Frank Ocean, 'Lost'

Hotly tipped Manchester newcomers add UK electro twist to Frank Ocean's r&b original

  • Flume: The most exciting name in electrionic music in 2013 is Flume, who releases his stunning debut album early in the year - and is sure to be heard for the 12 months that follow. Glitchy, lo-fi and packed with r&b sass, tracks such as 'Sleepless', 'Insane', 'Left Alone' and 'On Top' should already be on your playlists. Awesome stuff.

Manchester electro band Swiss Lips have premiered a cover version of Frank Ocean's single, 'Lost'.

The hotly-tipped five-piece have taken the US star's laid back soul track and added a solid dose of UK electronica to the tune. Listen to the cover version below.

Swiss Lips are one of the many brilliant new UK bands heading for the mainstream in 2013, and recently hosted a residency in London, which included hosting a children's party for some very young fans. As could have been expected, there were tears and tantrums.

They band told Gigwise that they chose their name at random, only later discovering that 'swiss lips' was slang for female genitalia.

"Someone Googled it and found out it meant vagina. We thought it was pretty funny so it just stuck. It's not the greatest name in the world but it suits what we're doing and it feels right," said frontman Sam Hammond.

The band cite Icona Pop and Niki & The Dove as their favourite current artists, but reveal they would rather tour with Kasabian than Girls Aloud.

"I think Kasabian," said Hammond when asked about his touring preference. "Even though I'd much rather listen to Girls Aloud. I rate Girls Aloud, at least, I rate their songwriters, they've had some amazing pop songs. But we are striving to have some credibility and they are a completely manufactured pop band.

"If we lump ourselves with someone like Girls Aloud from the start I think we'd be making people think things of us that aren't really correct. If we played with a more credible artist, but with our more pop side, we could push through. I don't love Kasabian by any stretch of the imagination but I'd love to play with either of them."
