Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison claims he wasn't surprised that HMV went under, although it was still sad.

The high street store went into administration this week, after weeks of speculation that it was struggling. Many were unsurprised at the news, including the Scottish band.

"That's the kind of thing; I could kind of see this coming," Hutchison tells Gigwise. "A lot of people thought it was on its knees already anyway, but you should always mourn the loss of somewhere that stocks a wide variety of excellent music.

"For instance, the listening post - at that point in time, listening posts were where I found music in HMV, Virgin at the time as well, so that was really important to discovering new artists."

He continued, "But then, you know, everything moves on. It's just really a time of adapting and I don't know if anyone knows what the outcome will be or if there even is one.

"But we've never really lived or worked in an industry at the time when record sales were even kind of that relevant - I mean, in terms of actually earning money. So - you know, it's a sad thing but everything has to change."

Scott went on to talk about his memories of buying CDs at Woolworths, including the first record he bought.

"[Woolworths] did limit our musical tastes somewhat," he said, adding, "the first record I bought being Vanilla Ice, To The Extreme.

"That was probably the most left field thing available in Woolworths at the time, so I thought that was pretty cool."
