The book states, "Ava Cherry, a backup singer who lived with the Bowies for a time, reportedly told a friend that ''Mick and David were really sexually obsessed with each other. Even though I was in bed with them many times, I ended up just watching them have sex."

Frank Ocean has placed third in a poll run by gay magazine Out to vote for the Man of the Year 2012.

Readers of Out magazine voted CNN reporter Anderson Cooper in at number one, with 29.2 per cent of the vote. Star Trek's Zachary Quinto made second place, with 15.08 per cent, and Frank Ocean was at number three with 14.23 per cent.

The top five was finished off with political statistician Nate Silver, at 12.58 per cent, activist and writer Dan Savage with 3.39 per cent and US Army soldier Bradley Manning at 3.39 per cent.

Frank Ocean came out as bisexual in July of last year, admitting in a letter posted on his Tumblr account that his first love had been a man.

He wrote,  "4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. WE spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide.

"Most of the day I'd see him, and his smile. I'd hear his conversation and his silence until it was time to sleep. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiatin with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love, it changed my life."

Ocean also hit back at claims that he'd come out just for publicity, and told GQ last year that he'd been moved to tears after publishing the letter online.

"The night I posted it, I cried like a fucking baby. It was like all the frequency just clicked to a change in my head," he said. "All the receptors were now receiving a different signal, and I was happy. I hadn't been happy in so long. I've been sad again since, but it's a totally different take on sad."
