Bandmate Geezer Butler said in a statement, "I sincerely regret to inform you that after a final effort to participate in the upcoming Sabbath shows a failure to agree has continued." Despite cancelling their UK tour dates last month, The Civil Wars are apparently already recording new music.

In a statement after they cancelled their 2013 tour, the band did hint at new music on the way. However, it was widely speculated instead that they would break up - particularly as their reasons for cancelling the tour were "internal discord and irreconcilable differences."

However, band member Joy Williams posted on Twitter that the band were currently in the studio.

In a tweet to a friend, she wrote, "I'm in the studio right now, listening to some new @thecivilwars songs." Nothing else has been said about the possible new material.

The statement that the band posted on their Facebook page earlier this year read, "We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret.

"However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support."

The band mentioned possible new music, adding, "Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013."

The statement finished by offering to repay fans who had been left out of pocked by the tour cancellation, saying, "We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancelations.

"Please email us at info@thecivilwars.com if there are costs incurred that you would like to be reimbursed for, include a scan or attachment to your receipt(s) of the costs, and we will do our best to reimburse you for non-refundable charges."
