Jimmy Page is planning a solo tour next year, but has rubbished rumours that Led Zeppelin were looking to replace frontman Robert Plant.

After Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion concert, the band were keen to go on tour, but Plant was too busy working on his 'Raising Sand' LP with Alison Krauss.

Guitarist, Page confessed that there were people trying to get a new singer into the band.

He said: "There was a lot of ... I won't say pressure but a lot of hinting about 'this singer and that singer.' And for me, it was more about, 'Let's see what we can really do.' But I don't think we really got a chance to do that."

Led Zeppelin almost went on the road without frontman Robert Plant

The other members of the band were worried that a change of singer would have 'changed the character' of the band.

Page continued: "There was talk about bringing in some other singers, but that would have changed the characterof what we were doing, and done it rather suddenly."

Page had wanted to go out on the road this year after the group's 'Celebration Day' DVD was released, but has had to push his solo tour back until late 2013.

He said: "This time last year I intended to be actually playing by now in a live outfit. So that will have to be postponed now into sort of next year, tail end of next year. But I definitely want to be doing that."
