12 great albums of 2012 that nobody listened to

If these aren't on your playlists already - they should be. Overlooked classics from the past year

  • Wooderson - Let The Man Speak: Wooderson are one of those bands that manage to combine our favourite things without sounding like a mess - when everything is thrown into the mixing pot and something awesome is created. Hailing from Sheffield, Wooderson mix influences and genres and still retain a sense of cohesion; think sparks of Cap'n Jazz, hints of Thursday and a nice Jawbox-infused Fugazi feel. But that's not to say that Wooderson are derivative; Let The Man Speak is something all their own. Solid post-punk party anthems galore, all hidden away in the Steel City.

There are usually one or two albums a year that you absolutely adore, but for some infuriating reason just don't get the recognition they deserve.

You spend weeks listening intensely to some great records that it seems just no one else is listening to. It's a sad fact that all too often great albums do slip through the net in an age when it's so hard to fight against The X Factor culture and the increasing number of acts who put out talentless blobs of garbarge get into the top of the charts. Not naming any names, of course...

So this list is our homage to the brilliant albums that have had some of us enthralled, but have eluded so many this year.

Take a look through our gallery and see if you find any forgotten favourites.
