Rihanna begins her 777 tour with late arrival for first gig

London venue of the tour yet to be announced

  • Madonna's Drowned World tour was the highest-grossing concert tour of 2001 by a solo artist, and the most theatrical. The show was divided into five segments; Neo-Punk, Geisha-Anime, Country-Western, Latin-Spanish and Urban-Pimp. Madonna arrived on stage in a 'spaceship', and there was an aluminium tree, mechanical bull, and a spinning 3800lb chair all included in the show. She certainly doesn't do things by halves.

Rihanna has kicked off her much hyped 777 tour with the first show in Mexico City.

The ambitious tour takes the singer to seven countries in seven days to mark the release of seventh album Unapologetic.

Members of the star's fanclub - and around 150 journalists - are being flown to the various venues on a private Boeing 777 jet.

The plane travels to Toronto today, before continuing to Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, and London. It will then conclude in New York on November 20.

When the tour touches down in the UK on 19 November, those lucky enough to be attending the gig will be hoping for an electrifying show - especially as the concert takes place on the same day that Unapologetic is released - but as yet there has been no announcement of a venue.

It's thought that the location will be announced on the day of the concert, with tickets then being available for fans at the venue on a first come, first served basis.

Upon arriving on stage in Mexico City, the star apologised for the show's late start because of equipment bags being delayed, but also expressed her delight at returning to the city.

She said: "It's been such a long time I've been waiting to come here, I love you guys."

When the Boeing took off earlier in the day it is reported that Rihanna told her travelling fans to "buckle up and let's get drunk".

Later on the flight she also served a selection of fans champagne, before disappearing for a tour of the aircraft's cockpit.

During the show the star played a full greatest hits set including 'Only Girl In the World', 'What's My Name' and 'Umbrella'.

The set also included a version of 'Disturbia' with a heavy dubstep breakdown added to the track.

The full set-list from the first performance of Rihanna's 777 tour is below:

'Cockiness (I Love It)'
'Birthday Sex'
'Talk That Talk'
'Wait Is Over'
'Shot A Man Down'
