Blink-182 have teased that they could be following in the footsteps of Mumford & Sons with the release of their next EP.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, drummer Travis Barker promised that they were going all out on the new record - which the band plan to release as a digital EP at Christmas.

Barker said that one of the songs is "very folky," and explained, "It's way out. We all had some ideas. I went in the studio and I was just playing around.

"I had my electronic kit and I just played a straight drum pattern over it, and it sounded crazy. It changed the entire shape of the song."

Blink-182 recently split from their record label, Interscope, after hinting at problems - and this means they are an independent band again for the first time since 1994 and the release of their debut, Cheshire Cat.

Referring to this, Barker said that the EP is being made entirely for their fans, adding, "It's like a post-being-off-the-label celebration."

Fans can also be relieved, as Barker promised that the new record - folky or otherwise - is defiitely going to be better than the last release from the band, Neighborhoods.

He told Rolling Stone, "To me already, this EP is a hundred times better than Neighborhoods. Because we're all in a room together."

The Blink-182 drummer said that he felt that Neighborhoods was "disconnected," and finished by saying, "It was like, 'You do this part in your studio, and then you're gonna play on it and send it back to me.'

"When we're not in the studio together, you don't have the opportunity to gel off each other."
