Sigur Ros have announced they are to release a new EP in March of next year.

The Icelandic ambient post-rockers begin a world tour this month with a show in Perth, Australia.

The news of the new, 3-track EP followed the annoncement that more North American dates are being added to the tour, including a show in New York's Madison square gardens in March.

Every ticket purchase for North American dates on the tour will now come with a complimentary download of the new EP.

The band released their sixth studio album, Valtari, in may this year, garnering mostly positive responses.

British fans of the band can catch them at shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Wolverhampton and London in February and March of next year.

The expansion of the tour has left some fans hopeful of more new material being premiered at the shows.

Earlier this month Sigur Ros gave fans their first taste of new track 'Brennisteinn' when they closed their headline set at Iceland Airwaves festival with it. The track was shared with fans via twitter following the show.

Sigur Ros perform at Bestival 2012

UK fans' only chance to see the band so far this year was their performance at Bestival, on the Isle of White, where the band were dismayed to have their night time slot pushed into daylight hours.

The band were so upset with the perfomance, which they described as 'miserable' that they issues a statement of apology to fans.
