Crystal Castles have declared their love for the vocals of Cure frontman, Robert Smith.

The duo explained how Smith's vocal technique on their 2010 collaboration 'Not In Love' heavily influenced their new album 'III'.

Speaking to Pitchfork, producer Ethan Kath described how Smith's ability to 'nail' a vocal on the first take led to Crystal Castles taking the same approach on the new record.

"Robert Smith's vocals on that track are actually home demo vocals. We cancelled the studio time booked to record final vocals because we were all attached to his raw demo vocals.

"I went with this idea of first-take vocals on the [III] tracks "Pale Flesh" and "Insulin".

Kath went on to talk about how he often deliberately chops and distorts the vocals of singer, Alice Glass.

He said the band's music is sometimes most affective when Glass' vocals are "spliced up and sprinkled all over the track.

He also went on to discuss how the percussion on the record is, in places, intended to 'agitate' the listener.

Discussing new track 'Telepath', the Canadian added "The percussion is the most abstract on this song.

"It's intentionally not in time with the kick and snare in a way which I find agitating. It's one of my favourite elements of the track."

Crystal Castle will kick off a UK tour to support 'III' at the end of this month.

The band will play six dates, starting in Birmingham on 22 November.

The tour will conclude in Manchester on 28 November.
