Blink-182 have paid tribute to Green Day, following frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checking himself into rehab.

Mark Hoppus expressed his concern for Billie Joe, wishing him and the band all the best.

In an interview with US radio station CBS Local, he was asked about Billie Joe's meltdown on stage and the subsequent announcement that the guitarist was seeking help.

Hoppus said, "I don't know exactly what’s going on. I saw what happened onstage, and then I saw the announcement like two days later or whatever it was that he was checking himself in to get help.

"I think that's great if it's what he needs, and I wish them all the best. They're an amazing band and really cool guys, and I hope that all is good in their world."

Hoppus continued by adding, "Other than what I've heard in the news, I don't know enough. I hope that Billie's good, I hope that the band is in a good place and I wish them nothing but health and success for sure."

Metallica also weighed in on the Green Day situation after replacing them as headliners at Voodoo Festival in New Oreleans.

Frontman for the metal gods, James Hetfield, attempted to ease the disappointment of any Green Day fans two songs in by joking: "We are Green Day... except a little taller."

The punk-rock trio pulled out of the festival because of singer, Billie Joe Armstrong's recent personal problems.

Hetfield went on to dedicate Metallica hit 'Battery' to the troubled rocker. "This one's for Billie", he professed (as reported by the NME) before the band launched into the song.

But perhaps the most touching tribute was during Metallica's encore.Hetfield continued to bear Green Day fans in mind when interacting with the crowd.

He said: "You're hoping Green Day are going to show up, right? So am I. They're getting help. They're getting it sorted out. The world needs them."
