Jon Bon Jovi has cut short a promotional trip to the UK to be with family and friends in hurriance-hit hometown, New Jersey.

The star has been in the UK this week promoting the rock band's 2013 world tour. Earlier this week the 'Living On A Prayer' singer was snapped enjoying whiskey and Guinness at a liquid lunch and press conference in Slane Castle in Dublin.

He was due to make appearances in London, but has now flown home after the East Coast of America was devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

"I really need to get back home having spoken to my wife and kids, who are stuck in New York," says the 50-year-old star, according to The Metro. "I need to be with my people. Thankfully, my family are safe.

"There is no power, water, the devastation is off the charts. The president is in my hometown in New Jersey because of the damage. It's like Armageddon. Where my children surf, 80 houses burnt down."

It was recently revealed the Bon Jovi would be offering specialy priced tickets for fans wanting to attend their 2013 world tour, with prices beginning as low as £12 for cash strapped fans.

Many musical stars took to Twitter to share messages of support for those caught in the chaos on America's East Coast, with singer Sean Kingston warning fans of rumoured shark sightings in the waters that flooded New Jersey.

Heard somebody seen a shark just swimming in there neighborhood.. because of#Hurricanesandy this is crazy stay safe people!" Kingston tweeted, (sic).

Rapper Kendrick Lamaer likened the event to a wet t-shirt competition, tweeting: "Hurricane Sandy over here super soaking these hoes."
