Glastonbury organisers aren't giving up their quest to get the Rolling Stones as headliners for the 2013 festival.

Tickets for Glastonbury have already sold out despite no bands being announced as yet - but festival organisers are hoping to make it all worth it by securing the Rolling Stones.

The band have never played Glastonbury, and it could be the perfect addition to their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Organiser Emily Eavis told NME, "We’d obviously like that to happen, we’ve always been quite open about that, whether or not it does, I cannot say."

She went on to add that it is still just a rumour, saying: "I could not tell you now whether it’s going to happen. But we would love it to happen next year, we feel like if it’s going to happen, it’s got to happen next year.

"So, you know, we’d love for it to happen, so we’ll try our best - I’ll let you know how we get on."

Glastonbury: Still hoping to get the Rolling Stones for 2013.

Glasto founder Michael Eavis is also said to be on the case. A source told The Sun recently: "Michael Eavis is desperate to get the band confirmed and has made initial contact with their people.

"It would be a massive coup to get the band playing Glasto on what could be their last round of live dates.

"Getting a decision from the whole band can be tough and at the moment they are without an agent for live shows, which is not helping the situation. But there is a good chance 2013 will finally be the year they make it."

The Rolling Stones, however, still remain tight-lipped about their decision. Keith Richards was carefully vague when asked about Glastonbury by BBC 6 Music's Matt Everitt.

He told Everitt: "On a good day, if the weather's fine, [Glastonbury] is an interesting proposition.

"The band wants to get these four gigs under their belt and then think about next year after that."
