Tame Impala: 'Hearing new music is a waste of time'

Aussie rockers admit they avoid listening to new music - instead preferring to make it

Tame Impala have admitted they see listening to new music as a 'waste of time'.

The psychedelic Aussie rockers, who released their second album 'Lonerism' last week, have revealed they prefer to focus all their attention on their own music.

In an interview with Gigwise, Tame Impala founder, Kevin Parker, spoke of how it is not worth his while to invest time in seeking out new tracks.

He confessed: "I haven't really listened to anything in months. I prefer to be thinking about new music as opposed to listening to it.

"It's hard for me to follow music, it just feels like a waste of time when I could be writing a new song myself."

The approach is one that is clearly working for the band. The album has received universally positive reviews and they will play their biggest UK headline shows to date at the end of the month.

Parker went on to say that the only way he is ever able to discover new music if it is 'put on a plate' for him.

"I don't really listen to a lot of music. I usually just wait for my friends to spoon-feed me new bands."

Despite the positive reaction to the album and current single 'Elephant', the frontman has also said he takes reviews from critics with a 'pinch of salt'.

"It's all one big blob of other people's opinions, even if a review is positive is doesn't necessarily mean I feel good about it."

Tame Impala's new album 'Lonerism' was released last Monday. They will play four UK dates starting at the end of the month.
