Gangnam Style becomes most liked YouTube video of all time

Psy's K-Pop smash hit flexes its online muscle

Friday 21st September 2012 by David Renshaw

Psy's YouTube smash hit 'Gangnam Style' has become the most 'liked' video on the site of all time.

The K-Pop single has taken the world by storm with its fun dace routine, catchy chorus and hyper-reality style video and YouTube viewers have become obsessed, viewing the promo over 200m times since it was put online in July this year.

Now Guinness World Records have confirmed that the video is the new record holder, having been 'liked' 2,234,180 times in just two months.

The huge figure of approval puts it ahead of rivals such as LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ (1,574,963 likes), Justin’s Bieber’s ‘Baby’ (1,327,147 likes) and Adele’s ‘Rolling in the deep’ (1,245,641 likes).

Guinness World Records Community Manager, Dan Barrett, said: “Having been the “have you seen this?!” video of the last two months across the web, it’s great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something  would be viewed a hundred million times, and now “Gangnam Style” has achieved more than twice this figure in just 3 months on YouTube. PSY – your certificate is waiting here at our office, come pick it up any time!”

The single is selling well on both sides of the Atlantic with 'Gangnam Style' currently number one on the US iTunes and number two in the UK at the time of writing.

If the song were to reach number one in either country it would represent the first ever number one for a K-Pop star in either country.

'Gangnam Style' is also number one in the iTunes charts in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland and New Zealand.

Psy has taken the US by storm in recent weeks, making appearances on the Today show and MTV VMAs as well as teaching Ellen DeGeneres how to dance like he does in the Gangnam Style video, viewed over 200m times online.
