The most boring party guests ever: sober rock and roll stars

Neil Young sober for a year - who else is teetotal?

  • Chris Martin - The Coldplay frontman doesn't drink alcohol or coffee, but when Coldplay were making their first album, Parachutes, he forced himself to booze to the point of vomiting as penance for briefly kicking drummer Will Champion out of the band. He wrote one of Coldplay's hits, Trouble, while huddled in a recording studio cupboard. He is a sensitive soul.

Neil Young has announced that he has been sober for a year, and revealed that he did so in order to write his autobiography and to simply see what being teetoal was like.

He has also revealed that he has begun to ponder qutting music, so we're not totally sure the choice to ditch drink and drugs will be such a good idea in the long run. But if Young does stay on the wagon, he'll be in good company - since some of the biggest stars in rock are also staunch non-drinkers. Everyone round to Florence Welch's house for tea and biscuits.

From hard-talking rappers to US rock icons to indie stars old and new - some of music's biggest names are non-drinkers, along with well known good guys such as Brandon Flowers. check out some of the most famous, and surprising, teetotal stars in rock and roll. Feel free to pour yourself a stiff drink beforehand.
