Arctic Monkeys will are planning to head out into the US desert to record their fifth album in the near future, it has been reported.

The band, who released their fourth album 'Suck It and See' in 2011, are rumoured to be moving in a heavier direction on their new songs and could team up with QOTSA man Josh Homme, whom they have worked with before and regularly records in the area.

Breaking the news online last night (Sept 17), The Arctic Monkey's US fansite wrote on Twitter that: "Joshua Tree is the place. the wheels are in motion for AM5."

Arctic Monkeys were last seen in the UK when they performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London.

That night saw the band perform a cover The Beatles song 'Come Together', a cover which subsequently went into the Official UK Charts.
