Too late to apologise: Artists forced to say sorry for musical disasters

From bad gigs to terrible albums

  • Sigur Ros apologised for their appearance at Bestival 2012 after being forced to perform during daylight hours despite having an extensive light show which required total darkness. Blaming headline act Stevie Wonder for their woes, a statement from the Icelandic band reads: "Early in the day a decision had been made to delay broadcast till after the show to give the band a chance to review the footage ahead of webcast, since they were dismayed that their guaranteed "darkness" slot had been pushed into daylight by the expansive demands of the headliner."

Ask anyone if they had a good time at Bestival this year and the huge smile on their face says it all. However, Icelandic band Sigur Ros had a bit of a nightmare when their time slot was moved forward, ruining their elaborate stage show.

The group issued an apology to fans who they felt had not seen the full Sigur Ros experience, blaming headliner Stevie Wonder and promising to make up for the experience when they return to the UK for a 2013 tour.

However, Sigur Ros are not the only band who have had to apologise for the quality of their output. From disastrous gigs to rubbish albums and even a case of violence toward fans, musicians have a long and rich history of saying sorry (just ask Elton John, he really struggles with that word).

So, take a look through the case studies gathered here to see just who messed up so badly they just had to put their tail between their legs and apologise.
