Muse have spoken about their forthcoming album 'The 2nd Law', saying they are unafraid to "go into almost Monty Python rock".

Frontman Matt Bellamy said that he doesn't mind if people don't take songs like recent singles 'Survival' and 'Madness' entirely seriously, because they are not scared of showing their eccentricities.

The singer also said he was aware the band had a reputation for epic songs and compared their newer work to opera.

Speaking about new track 'Survival', Bellamy told Contact Music: "We don’t care if people don’t necessarily take songs like that 100 per cent seriously.

"We’re not afraid of our eccentricities, we’re not afraid of going into almost Monty Python rock," he added.

"But it’s like opera. If you put a piece of opera on, it’s ridiculous unless you’ve listened to the whole thing and just go there with it."

Muse release their new dubstep-influenced album 'The 2nd Law' on 1 October, which the band have said is the "weirdest album we've ever made".

Recent single 'Madness' is included on the album, which Coldplay's Chris Martin believes is their best single to date.

The Devon trio are set for UK tour this October, taking in five shows in Glasgow, London, Birmingham and Manchester - see Gigwise Gig Tickets for more information.

They also headline an iTunes Festival show at London's Roundhouse on 30 September.
