Brian May: 'Wildlife work is more important than my music'

Queen guitarist talks saving hedgehogs and owls

Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed his current priority is his wildlife work - not his current tour with Adam Lambert.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the guitar icon spoke of the animal sanctuary he had set up in the grounds of his Surrey estate, saying nursing injured animals back to health was more impotant than his role with Queen.

"I suppose I've lived a crazy life, and watching wildlife brings back a sense of tranquility," said May in the interview with the Sunday paper. "When I'm gone, people will no doubt remember me for Queen, but I would much rather be remembered for attempting to change the way we treat our fellow creatures."

"[Queen] is a huge part of my life, but I do have other interests," he continued. "People know about the astrophysics, but I love gardening, too, and I've always been passionate about the welfare of our wonderful British wildlife."

He also reveals the sanctuary is currently home to 36 hedgehogs, seven badger cubs and two tawny owls - all of whom will be released into the wild once they are fit and ready.

He has previously won an International Fund for Animal Welfare Award for the sanctuary.
