Ahead of the debut of a BBC documentary into the making of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Exile On Main Street’, Gigwise has taken a look at how the 1972 album came together, complete with some impressive shots of the iconic band in action.

1. Although �Exile On Main Street� was recorded in the summer of 1971, most of the album�s songs can be traced back to recording sessions held at Olympic Studios and singer Mick Jagger�s country house in England between 1969 and 1971.
