Michael Jackson's This Is It DVD sold 1.2million copies in its first week in the US, according to early sale figures.
The film, which follows the late singer as he prepared for his ill-fated comeback gigs, outsold blockbusters including The Hangover and Disney's Surrogates.
This Is It also topped the Blu-Ray chart, with 21% of all sales coming via the new disc format, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The concert film is due to be released in the UK on February 22.
As well as the Kenny Ortega-directed movie, the DVD also includes more than 90 minutes of bonus footage split into two documentaries.
Staging the Return: Beyond the Show and Staging the Return: The Adventure Begins show Jackson's preparations for the gigs.
Meanwhile, the Blu-ray Disc release will also feature uncut versions of the videos for 'Thriller' and 'Smooth Criminal', reports Billboard.
Jackson died on June 25 in Los Angeles - just two weeks before he was due to begin his pop comeback.
