In a rapidly developing bromance, Noel Gallagher has praised Ed Sheeran's honesty for turning down a charity gig - hailing him as a 'fucking dude'.

Gallagher recalled the conversation in NME saying Ed Sheeran is a ''dude'' for being honest about his reasons for turning down a benefit gig for the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2013.

Rather than hiding behind a publicist or a manager, Sheeran contacted Gallagher directly, explaining that while he couldn't make the booking, he would honour it next year.

Gallagher explained: "The only one fucking person that has ever ever ever said 'I can't do it, I just got back from Australia I can’t be fucking arsed man, I'm fucked, but I will definitely do it next year' – and I crossed his name off the list – was Ed Sheeran! He actually called me back, you know what I mean, he said, 'Right I'm ready now, I wanna do it', and I thought, 'You know what, what a fucking dude'."

Gallagher and Sheeran have been trading comments in the press recently. In an interview with earlier in the year, Gallagher said, "When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a fucking guitar it seems subversive, but it’s fucking not." As for the fact that Sheeran will perform in the 80,000 capacity Wembley Stadium in July, he said, "I don't think I can live in a world where that's even possible."

Not only did Sheeran reply on Twitter ("I can live in it, it's really enjoyable.") but then in an subsequent interview with the Daily Star, Sheeran offered tickets to  Gallagher inviting him along to one of his Wembley gigs. "I texted him because I have his number and asked him if he'd like some tickets. He wrote back, 'You cheeky so and so. My daughter would love some'." He added, "He's always going to be the guy who's outspoken. I wasn't offended. I found it quite cool to be in his interview."

Most recently Gallagher told Shortlist that he 'won't hear a bad word said against Ed Sheeran'.

Perhaps Gallagher could extend the goodwill to Kasabian, who recently slammed Sheeran for 'making music for squares'

Sheeran is set to play a huge number of shows this summer, including three nights at Wembley stadium. To buy tickets see below.
