More about:

Ed Sheeran has won the Best Album at the Brit Awards, taking the opportunity to praise the quality of British music and those who support it.

Accepting the award from Russell Crowe, to a huge cheer from the audience at the O2 Arena in London, Sheeran said the following. "Thank you. Russell Crowe everyone! Sick. Thank you so much for this, I was really worried about this album. It took a long time to make and to be happy with it and I didn't expect this .What I will say though is it's been a very very good year for British music and I think it's a night to celebrate the whole thing. I don't think a statue gives justification to people's success, I think the sales and accreditation and tickets, everything gives success. This statue is wonderful, thank you so much BRITs but... yeah, just keep making music and it's nice to meet you. Sick. Nice one."

Sheeran also performed 'Bloodstream' alongside the likes of Madonna, Royal Blood, Madonna, Sam Smith, Paloma Faith, George Ezra and Kanye West.
