Bestival are bringing their signature blend of incredible genre-defying DJs, eccentric bands, thrilling live hip-hop and friendly punters in fancy dress to Canada.
As the New York Times reports, Rob Da Bank is set to bring the festival to Toronto Islands, a park near Lake Ontario. Although no festival line-up is confirmed so far, the dates are expected to be 12-13 June 2015.
Teaming up with SFX Entertainment and Canadian company Embrace, Bestival will build a custom space that will hold 20,000 people a day (smaller than Camp Bestival, the most exclusive festival Da Bank runs in the UK).
“No disrespect to the festivals in North America, but a lot of them are very much stages, bars, food tents,” Rob da Bank told the New York Times. “This festival will look very different. It will have theatricality, ambition.”
For those of us on this side of the Atlantic, Bestival recently announced their UK lineup, including The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Duran Duran, The Jacksons, Tame Impala, Fat White Family and Action Bronson. The theme this year is 'summer of love'.
"We're taking it right back to our roots for the 12th annual Bestival," Da Bank explained. "It’s also the 20th birthday of the club where it all started - Sunday Best, and that club and our beloved Bestival were founded on some pretty simple aims - listen to amazing music, make new friends, have fun, and maybe stay up all night.
"Two decades later we're rigidly sticking to those principles, and this edition of Bestival, with its Summer of Love theme, is all about one huge musical, well, orgy...
He added: "So, returning friends the Chemical Brothers rave alongside iconic popstars Duran Duran and The Jacksons, and some of my favourite modern musical mavericks - Tame Impala, Flying Lotus and Jungle - jump in bed together… and this is just the start of the party… Watch this space and feel the love!”
