Ellie Goulding has won the BRIT Award for the Best British Female, and was presented her award by none other than Prince, and his new band, 3RDEYEGIRL.

The singer won the first award of the night, beating the likes of Birdy, Jessie J, Laura Mvula and Laura Marling to the prize. Prince made a rare, announced, appearance at the show following a number of surprise gigs in London in recent weeks.

Arctic Monkeys opened the show, with Katy Perry also performing. Kylie Minogue and Pharrell Williams took to the stage to present Bruno Mars with his award for Best International Male, before the Las Vegas showman performed his hit, 'Treasure.
