Flying Lotus has launched a stinging attack on the new Youtube awards and the artists nominated in their first ever ceremony.

The producer is upset that the video channel has turned its back on its origins and chased the glamour of the biggest acts in the planet. The event is to be held in New York on 3rd November, and after quick look at the list of nominees we think he may have a point.

The most famous video site in the World has a reputation for breaking artists who don't have the backing of super-rich record labels, but it's hard to see where Katy Perry, Nikki Minaj and One Direction fit into this ethic. Flying Lotus shares this view, stating on Twitter "Seems like the YouTube music awards are pretty much the same as the VMAs. I don't really see the point. If it's all about hits sure I get it but let's be fair."

He has also claimed that the awards don't encourage creativity, saying "YouTube award nominations clearly don't care about cutting edge/innovation. They had an opportunity to shine a light on all the artists that they helped to gain notoriety just to shit on them for uber famous acts."

There is a nod to the power of the channel, with viral stars PSY and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis receiving nominations. We somehow don't think this will be enough keep Flying Lotus happy though.
