Liverpool's legendary The Cavern Club, where The Beatles made their name, have denied reports that the venue is for sale.

The Fab Four played the nightclub over 300 times in their early years and has since become a landmark and spot of pilgrimage for Beatles fans from around the world.

This weekend, The Times newspaper reported that the venue will be sold along with the neighbouring Cavern Walks Shopping Centre for £1million, and that the properties were being sold after owner, Warner Estate, filed for administration last month.

However, speaking to Gigwise a spokesman from The Cavern Club insisted that the venue was 'not for sale', and that the auction lot only applied to the shopping centre.

Beatles' manager Brian Epstein first saw the band perform at The Cavern Club in November 1961, before the venue went on to become a focal point of the rise of rock n' roll and the famous Mersey Beat scene in the 1960s - seeing performances from the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Elton John, Queen, The Who and John Lee Hooker.

Last month, it emerged that The Beatles will release On Air Live At The BBC - Volume 2 on 11 November on 2CD and vinyl, featuring tracks recorded for radio between 1963 and 1964. The new release follows the 1994 chart topping release, Live At The BBC, which sold over 5million copies in just six weeks on sale.

The new collection boasts 63 tracks, including two cover versions that have not been released before. These are The Beatles' interpretations of 'I'm Talking About You' by Chuck Berry and a cover of 'Beautiful Dreamer', written by Stephen Foster.

"There’s a lot of energy and spirit," says Paul McCartney of the new release. "We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes."
