Singer will have to 'lose a hand' to stop using
Babyshambles and former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty has admitted to still using drugs, having tried to give up several times.
The 34-year-old singer is as notorious for his drug intake as he is known for his musical talents. He comfirmed recently that he is currently still using heroin and crack cocaine.
In he interview with NME he discusses the difficulties with his various habits, Doherty is refreshingly frank about his experience.
"I don't think it's possible to sustain a healthy, for want of a better word, cocaine and heroin dependancy, and then call yourself healthy by any stretch of the imagination," he tells the magazine.
Doherty feels that anyone who would consider themselves healthy living such a lifestyle is a 'fool', and at 30 'It's like, either curb it or stop it, or lose your health.'

Doherty also discusses the hard path to recovery: "To get better you have to get worse. When I stop smoking crack, which I have done recently - I am smoking a lot less - my lungs, all of a sudden, start churning out all this horrible shit." He describes the descent from drugs use as a 'pitched toe-to-toe street fight with your health'.
When asked what it would take for him to stop using, Doherty responded : 'Probably my sex drive will have to go. Or maybe I'll lose a hand.'
On his return to the music scene he said 'Babyshambles aren't back - this band has always been here'. The singer doesn't want the music to be 'half arsed' and added 'I want to get up there and really fucking smash it out'.
Babyshambles will release their new album on September 2 and the first single from the album 'Nothing Comes to Nothing' is available from August 26.
