Australian electropop stars Empire Of The Sun have premiered the first single from their upcoming second album, listen to 'Alive' below.

The track is taken from their upcoming album, Ice On The Dune. 'Alive' will be available on 15 April, 2013 and the new album will be released on 16 June 2013.

The track follows previous hits including 'Walking On A Dream' and 'We Are The People' in 2008 and 2009, and shares the same uplifting summer sounds of their previous hits. The track also sounds reminiscent of Empire Of The Sun duo Nick Littlemore and Peter Hayes' other musical project, Pnau.

The pair have reunited with vocalist Luke Steele of the Sleepy Jackson for the second Empire Of The Sun album, and will return to UK shores in August for a one-off festival headline performance at Wilderness Festival.

Below: 13 reasons to be excited about pop music in 2013

  • 13. The demise of hi-energy europop: Every year we hope for it, but with any luck 2013 will see the back of hi-energy europop once and for all, and with so much else to look forward to hopefully there simply won't be enough space for europop in 2013. Take your 'Starships' and sod off, Minaj!

  • 12. Beyonce and Lady Gaga collaboration: Rumours are circulating that Beyonce will be releasing a track with Gaga entitled 'Ratchet', possibly also featuring Azealia Banks.

  • 11. Robbie Williams and Olly Murs tour: Robbie's already said that he wants his 2013 tour to top his infamous Knebworth shows. If they come anywhere near the tour will surely be a highlight of 2013.

  • 10. Haim to bring guitar pop back to the mainstream: Already building on the attention after being featured in the Sound Of 2013 listing, LA sisters Haim are expected to brighten up our iPods with their brand of R&B infused pop-rock.

  • 9. Britney Spears to return with hip-hop influenced album: Once again, she's back. This time the new britney album promises a hip-hop flavour and songweriter Elijah Blake has promised it'll be something other than what we're all expecting.

  • 8. Second Empire Of The Sun album expected: Aussie duo Empire Of The Sun have said they've managed to whitle down a collection of hundreds of songs to something that resembles an album, and they're very excited about it.

  • 7. Destiny's Child back with first new music since split: Eight years after their split, Destiny's Child are to reunite. They'll be releasing a compilation of their love songs, (creatively titled Love Songs), which will feature new track 'Nuclear' produced by Pharrell Williams.

  • 6. Justin Timberlake to return to music: Word of Justin's 'special announcement' got everyone excited yesterday. In the end there was no new music, but there will be on Monday. It's best for both the music and film industry that JT returns to music.

  • 5. Lady Gaga's ARTPOP for release: She's promised there'll be no weed involved in ARTPOP, so we can only wait and see what Gaga's fourth album has to offer.

  • 4. A*M*E* to brighten up the UK pop scene: Having released her debut last year, A*M*E* will hopefully be spending 2013 brightening up the UK pop landscape.

  • 3. Sia to release new album: Sia Furler will be releasing her sixth studio album early in 2013 - and after penning Rihanna's 'Diamonds' last year, hopes are high for her upcoming release.

  • 2. Girls Aloud stadium tour: The girl group have already been reunited before Christmas and are now lookig forward to heading out on their anniversary tour in 2013. Say what you will about GA, their live shows are the peak of pop performances.

  • 1. The return of the Original Sugababes as MKS: Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan reunited at last. The original Sugarbabes trio are back together under the name MKS while the 'Sugarbabe' continue with their new members. They recently premiered an acapella version of new single 'Boys' - and very good it is too.
