Rocker to star in AIDS drama with A-Listers

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto is returning to his acting roots with a new role in upcoming movie, The Dallas Buyer's Club.

Leto will star alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner as a HIV+ cross-dressed in the movie, which is inspired by the story of Rod Woodroof. Woodroof was a Texas electrician who who smuggled AIDS drugs into America to help him and others after he was diagnosed as a sufferer.

Leto will play a friend of Woodroof (McConaughey) while Garner and Spanish actor Gael Garcia Bernal will also star (in as-yet unnamed roles).

Leto was yesterday named as one of the bands confirmed for an appearance at Download Festival with his band, 30 Seconds To Mars.

Before making a successful transition to a rock and roll frontman, Leto was known for his acting work.

He made his named in TV drama My So Called Life before scoring film roles in Urban Legend, Fight Club, Girl Interrupted, American Psycho and Requien For A Dream. His most recent acting role was in the 2009 movie, Mr.Nobody.
