George Michael thanked fans for choosing to come see him and not stay in watching The X Factor as he made his live return in the UK last night.

Michael, who made his live return for the first time since falling ill in 2011 in Vienna recently, performed at Birmingham's LG Arena on Sunday night (Sept 16).

Speaking to his audience, Michael said: "You could have stayed at home and watched the X Factor tonight. I may be 70-years-old but I can still do it.

Adding: "That might let people on to the fact that I actually watch the X Factor. I only watch it because my boyfriend likes it."

Similarly to the Vienna gig, which was attended by the doctors who helped Michael recover from pneumonia, the former Wham! singer covered Rihanna's 'Russian Roulette' as part of his encore.
