Punk rockers Baroness have cancelled their UK tour after a bus crash near Bath left seven people injured.

The group, who released new album 'Yellow & Green' earlier this year, were travelling from Bristol to Southampton for a gig tonight (Aug 15) when the accident happened.

ITN reports that the incident took place 'at around 1130 am at the junction of Brassknocker Hill and the A36 close to Limpley Stoke Bridge.' Nine people were believed to be in the coach, which fell 30 feet over a viaduct. Two people who were trapped are being treated for serious injuries at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital.

Seven other people have been taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries. "Those people are now being treated by ambulance staff," a spokesman told BBC. Adding: "There were seven other passengers on board the coach, who have also been receiving medical treatment."

Speaking to the BBC, Baroness's tour promoter said: "It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Baroness were involved in a very serious road accident earlier today and will not be able to perform at Talking Heads tonight.

"Our thoughts are with the band at this time and we wish them and their crew a speedy recovery."

Any witnesses to the accident have been urged to call the Collision Investigation Unit.

Mechanic Richard Kelly, 24, who works at the nearby Greenfuel Co garage, told the Daily Mail: 'It looks like the coach has gone through the traffic lights, skidded through a fence and fallen onto the road below.

'It's a sheer drop. The coach managed to land on its wheels - but it was a mess. The front of it was completely caved in and there was a lot of damage to the back too.'

Update - a statement from the band's record label obtained by Pitchfork states that tonight's Southampton gig, and indeed the rest of Baroness' European tour, has been cancelled.

"All band members and personnel on board are currently receiving medical treatment.

The band had performed in Bristol last night and were traveling to Southampton for a performance at Talking Heads this evening.

All remaining dates on the band's European tour have been canceled. Additional details to come as more information is available."

The affected dates are as follows:

Southampton, UK - Aug 15
Hasselt, Belgium - 17
Leipzig, Germany - 18
