The xx have surprised fans by releasing 'Angels', the first song from their new album 'Coexist'.
The track carries on where the band left off and is a signature xx song, complete with love-torn lyrics, gentle atmospherics and an immersive mix of underground influences and classic sounds.
Writing on Facebook, the band put: "It's been a long time since we've played you anything new. This song is called Angels, it is the first single from our new album, Coexist. We've been playing this song live recently, so it feels good to share with you the version we've been working on for so long. We hope you like it. xx The xx"
Posting on Twitter, the band's record label Young Turks wrote: "Hear 'Angels' the first song from 'Coexist'. Also find the artwork!" Check out 'Angels' on below, now. The album artwork can be seen below.
The XX have recently announced three 2012 shows in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh. For more information visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
The London trio made their return to the music scene with three low-key gigs in the capital earlier this year. The three shows saw the band testing out material from 'Coexist' with fans reporting of a more 'club-orientated' vibe on the tracks.
Speaking to NME about their new songs, Romy Madely-Croft said: "I've been thinking that I hope people enjoy it as a separate thing. The first album exists – we're not trying to make it again."
