Dappy has been forced to apologise after appearing to show support for a convicted murderer he went to school with.

The outrage comes off the back of Dappy's video for 'Tarzan 2' in which he says “Free Leo Chindamo”. Chindamo was been jailed after he stabbed his headmaster, Philip Lawrence, to death at St George’s RC School in West London in 1995.

Chindamo was released in 2010 after serving his 14 year sentence but is back inside after being seen assosciating withy known gang members, this breaching the conditions of his licence.

Philip Lawrence's widow Frances told The Sun she was not happy about the use of Chindamo's name in 'Tarzan 2', saying: I don’t think it is right someone should be making money from using his name in a song.”

Taking to Twitter to clear his name, Dappy wrote: "Just wanted to say I honestly wasn't aware he did that, I knew his brother from when I was young. In no way did I intend to cause any upset and I didn't know about his past. My heart goes out to Mr Laurence's family and I know too well the pain of losing a loved one."

'Tarzan 2' has caused a huge deal of controversey on Twitter with Dappy's cousin, and X Factor judge, Tulisa hitting out at the star but Lily Allen defending his right to say what he wants. In fact, Dappy's average intake of new Twitter followers has increased 800% this week with over 5,000 new fans joining him on the social network.
