He will star opposite Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman in new film

Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman are amongst the first names confirmed to appear in a forthcoming film centred around the iconic music venue CBGB's in New York.

Harry Potter actor Grint will play Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys in the film, titled simply CBGB, which is to be released in 2013. He will star opposite Malin Akerman (Watchmen, The Heartbreak Kid) who has landed the prize role of playing Debbie Harry in the film.

Meanwhile, Alan Rickman will play the central role of Hilly Kristal, the owner of CBGB's. He will appear alongside Seinfeld actress Estelle Harris, who will play his Mother. Joel David Moore and Julian Acosta have been cast to play Joey and Johnny Ramone respectively.

CBGB's was a key venue in the history of many New York bands, including The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads and Patti Smith. The venue closed in 2006.
