A new video has emerged from the set of Superman: Man of Steel.

Filming has been taking place in Vancouver, with the Canadian city doubling as an Alaskan town.

The video shows Cavill, fully bearded, helping to rescue a team of workers, guiding them on to a helicopter.

Little is known about the storyline of Zack Snyder's reboot, but it is thought that Clark Kent leaves Smallville to embark on a journey of self dicovery, arriving in Alaska where he will both find himself and build his fortress of solitude.

Cavill, the first non-American to play the iconic DC character, is joined by Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon.

Superman: Man of Steel is scheduled for release on June 14, 2013.

Superman through the years...

  • Ray Middleton - Seen here at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, on July 3rd 1940. This was the first public appearance of Superman, who before had been stuck between the pages of comics for the previous two years.

  • Kirk Alyn - The first actor to play Superman on screen, Alyn starred in the 1948 serial Superman, as well as the 1950 follow-up, Atom Man Vs. Superman.

  • George Reeves - Sprang to fame in the 1950's television series The Adventures of Superman.

  • Christopher Reeve - With Superman finally receiving the Hollywood treatment at the end of the 1970's, the casting of Christopher Reeve meant that for many he will always be the true face of the Son of Krypton.

  • As the Superman films dwindled in quality, the mid-1990s saw The New Adventures of Superman hit the television. It made a star of Teri Hatcher; Dean Cain will always have his memories.

  • Tom Welling - Superman was re-branded in Smallville, a show that focused on the young Clark Kent's teen years in Smallville. He and Lex Luthor were friends, growing apart.

  • Brandon Routh - In 2006, Superman was back on the big screen, and he looked just like Brandon Routh, who looks just like Christopher Reeve. It wasn't bad, he was quite good, but with Superman being re-booted, Routh will remain a one-hit wonder.

  • Henry Cavill - So, for the first time Superman won't be American. Mind you, coming from another planet and everything, I suppose that shouldn't really matter. Time will tell how good (or bad) Cavill's portrayal will be.
