Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and Nine Inch Nails' star Trent Reznor have paid tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who has died at the age of 56.

Jobs, whose technologies, including the iPod and iPhone, transformed the music industry in the digital age, had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2004.

On Twitter, Jagger wrote: "RIP Steve Jobs."

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto also paid tribute: "Maybe we can turn our phones and comps off at a certain time in honor of his contributions. RIP."

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor said: "Thanks for the tools, the inspiration, the possibilities... Miss you already Steve."

Away from the music world, Jobs' impact and influence on technology has been remembered by everyone from President Barack Obama to Microsoft's Bill Gates.
