Joss Whedon has complained about the cast of The Avengers getting on too well.

The director had hoped that having such a collection of big personalities would lead to conflict that would translate well onto the big screen, but has found this not to be the case.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "I was like, well, if they hate each other, I guess we can use that. But they don't."

The creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer went on to reveal that, when not shooting the film in Alberquerque, the cast and crew tend to hang out in dancing clubs together.

Whedon also revealed that he spends a lot of time re-writing the film as the shoot progresses.

He said: "There is a weird element of - they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I'm making it up as I go."

The Avengers is released on May 4, 2012.
