Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder has said his life is “easier” now he doesn't take drugs.
In an interview with the Guardian, the 49-year-old singer admitted taking illegal substances had blighted a large proportion of his life.
"Drugs shut you down,” he said. Years later, you find yourself tripping off about things that just didn't faze you at the time."
When asked to give an example, Ryder replied: "Deaths of family members and friends that didn't even touch you. Drugs cut you off emotionally, don't they?"
Ryder went on to say that the best thing about no longer taking drugs is that he is able to appreciate things.
"You think being off your tits makes life easier, but you know what? It's a lot easier when you're not,” he added.
Ryder's autobiography, entitled 'Twisting My Melon, is out now.
